The hour was well into dusk; a messenger, with an oral message, informed us to vacate our Battle Positions & assemble at the C.P., at once. Heavy weapons and related ammunition were to be left behind.
We did not know, at this time, that the 422nd & 423rd Regiments had surrendered.
For five men, from our squad, it would be a vary long night; filled with anxious moments. All were in a forest that was no longer friendly territory. Five of us were separated from "G" Company and it would be well past daylight the next morning before we found them.
