I found the 106th Division Association when I began working with Dad's letters from the war. Dad's gone now and greatly missed by all his offspring. But the connection with members of the division has helped in a number of ways. Members of the association and of this discussion board have helped as I pieced together Dad's history. They have welcomed me into a larger family. And, they have helped me to feel more connected to Dad.
My father was Lt. Gerald Pratt. Dad enlisted during the peacetime draft some eleven months before Pearl Harbor. After time in the Pacific and OCS, he joined the 106th in July of '43. During Tennessee Maneuvers Dad was Executive Officer to Captain John (Jack) Pitts, presumably this was in A Battery of the 590th Field Artillery Battalion.
Dad was almost lost to the division in the plundering for replacements for other divisions in the summer of 1944. But his transfer was rescinded and he returned to the division as Battery Motor Officer in the Service Battery of the 590th Field Artillery Battalion. This unit joined up with the remnants of the 589th Field Artillery Battalion, when separated from the rest of the battalion on December 17.
On January 1, 1944 the men from this cobbled unit were parceled out to other outfits. Dad ended up in A Battery of the 592nd and remained there until the old units were reconstituted in April of 45. He then became part of the new Service Battery of the 590th Field Artillery Battalion.

Gail,
Somehow I missed this note....
Yes, Dad was at Tennessee Maneuvers. But he was with A-Battery of the 590th at the time, working as Jack Pitts Exec Officer. Then a knee injury there sent him. to a hospital for a while... I believe he was still with A-Battery when the division moved from Tennessee to Indiana.
No I didn't know there was Tennessee Maneuver Stationery! I'd be interested in seeing a copy!!
