I am the grandson of Earl Baumgarn, 424, comp. D. Wondering if anyone knew him or has pictures with him for WWII. I have started a collection and want to know more about him.

Hello Kevin:
I did not know you dad, although I was in G Comany of the 424th Regiment.
Yet, D company was a heavy weapons unit consisting of 80mm mortors and 50 caliber maching guns. Thus, the mortars and machine gun sections could be assigned to any part of the 1st Bn. which would have been A, B or C Company.
This may not seem like much help but something is better tan nothing at all.
