Would anyone know anything about a British doctor who was also a POW? In dad's notes he has both 9 A & B but near Gorlitz; dad took pneumonia the 2nd day (approx 1/19/45) after arriving at his 2nd pow camp. The doctor treated him with asprin, tea and toast! As Russian guns could be heard, pows were moved out with this doc via boxcar (approx 2/15/45) to camp 11 (again i have both a and b in separate notes) at Fallingbostel; while in route the train was shot by allied aircraft and the doctor talked the germans into letting them take cover in the woods taking full responsibilty for the men; he told the prisoners that they were too weak to try and make an escape; all listened to the doctor; on this trip the was a Carter from Reidsville NC; the men sat on their feet to keep them warm - once the airstrike started Carter flew out of the boxcar without his boots making good conversation for the men once they got back to England at hospital. Dad credits this and i'm sure many more prisoner doctors with saving lives both with their skills and, esp., when the germans would come thru camp pointing and asking the doctor, can that man walk? can that man walk? I would love to hear from anyone who might remember who this Brit doctor may be. My dad has a very belated thank you for him.
