Hello Josh:
What do you already know about James J. Mauk, Jr.?
This discussion group thrives on clues. The more clues you povide the more information will probably be returned to you.
Does his widow have his discharge papers and his uniform? Many clues could be in those two items.

She lives in NY and I live in TN so havent seen a uniform and no discharge papers. She knew he fought during the winter of '44, and was an NCO. Thats about all I have to go off of. Thanks.

Hello Josh:
Get in touch with the widow and explain to her that you are trying to help, however you need more information.
Having information from the deceased persons' discharge and separation papers would be a great help. Pictures of him in uniform may also be helpful.
The 424th Regiment was one of three Infantry Regiments of the 106th Infantry Division. James J. Mauk, Jr. was in I Company, 3rd Battalion, of the 424th Regiment. I Company was a rifle Company. Also, he was a Sgt.
Clues from letters, puicture, Army Services records etc. will help dig up more data.
