Hi all, I am looking for more information about my grandfather and his service in WWII. He was a part of 424th Regiment of the 106th Infantry Division, saw action in the Northern France, Central Europe, Ardennes and Rhineland campaigns. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any sites or possibly knows anyone that knew him or talked about him. He passed away from Alzheimer's last year but when he returned from the war he never discussed anything about it with my father or any of his siblings. I am just very interested and was not fortunate enough to be able to talk to him about it. Any information would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much!!

Good Morning! Sorry to have missed your post the day it came in. Please let me first offer condolences on the loss of your grandfather. As to his not speaking much about the war, most of us from the next two generations know where you are coming from... Do you know his rank? There is no official roster for division soldiers. Many documents were lost or destroyed. But Jim West of the Indiana Military Site has been compiling a roster from every source he can locate. The link to that site can be found here in the verbiage at the top of the main index (106th Soldiers on this Site) under "Site Soldier Index" on this discussion board: 106thdivision.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=index&action=display&thread=413. A search on the roster for "Brown" lead, of course to many. One in the 424th was a Charles D. Brown who was listed as a SSgt. I'll paste the info below. If rank and serial # match then we now know that your grandfather was in F company of the 424th. If this is not a match, I can delete this info from this post and we can pursue other possibilities. Brown, Charles D. SSgt 33348086 424th/F
