I am hoping to hear from anyone who might have served with my grandfather Jim Spencer. He was with the 423rd HQ and was a POW like so many others. He never spoke about his experiences serving in the military and I was hoping to find out a bit more.

Hi,
Just happened on this aging post. For all who have an outstandibg search, please know that it is OK to check in with your own reply giving updates or noting lack of them or other questions. This will bring your thread to the top again bringing renewed visibility.
I will check now to make sure that a link to this thread with your grandfather's name is in the Site Soldier Index and root around the roster, etc. I hope other info has com your way in the meantime...

OK I had put your grandfather's name ib the Site Soldier Index. A check of the roster led to a check of the Source List. I dont't have access to my computer at the moment and work with my ipad doesn't always give me acess to full links. But if you go to the Site Soldier Index on this discussion board and get into the "106th Names on this Site" thread, you'll find some links at the top of the 1st post, Go to the 2nd one which takes you to the source list for the Roster. Clicking on this will take you to a numbered list of sources. Scroll down the source list and click on 62. This takes you to a copy of a POW list compiled by Carl Wouters. Scroll down past the first list of S names and go through the alphabet again until you come to your Grandfather's name. You'll find the name of the POW camp where he was at the time this list was originally made: 11-B Fallibgbostel Prussia, Also given is his serial # if you don't already have this. In the POW camp naming that sometimes uses Roman numerals I at first mistook this name. The town name corrected my error. In Roman numerals this would be XI- B If you scroll down the list of POW camps that held members of the division you will find a few notes on this camp. I've added your grandfather 's name under this camp. 106thdivision.proboards.com/post/752/threadConnie
