A North Carolina WWII Experience relates his experience with the 106th thru his time as a POW, as told to a "grateful grandson.".. wwii.unctv.org/rev-james-howard-tuckerThe posting there does not give his rank or unit, but does mention he was in the "motor pool" of the unit he was in and recounts his capture on the 16th of December and his liberation on "Easter Monday." He's listed in the web account as Rev. James Howard, but the motor pool assignment would point toward the church position coming sometime post WWII and not chaplain work. The roster shows a J. Howard Tucker as having been in either (or both?) 424 H and/ or 422H. It indicates that a 1989 issue of the Cub Magazine names the 422 H. assignment. Of the POW guards at IX B, Tucker states: " For the most part our guards were older men, they spoke English, they even kept us informed on how the War was going. Except for one young officer they brought for a short while (he got a little sassy) most of them were decent enough. Looking back I think they realized the war was going to be over soon and they were just trying to get through it, just as we were."
