My father had also told a story when they had first gone overseas and traveled apparently some distance after crossing the channel about a young LT. He had said that he was driving his truck and the the young LT. was riding with him when they started to hear small arms fire and explosions. The young LT. turned to my dad and said Newnam isn't this exciting this is what we have been training for.My dad apparently did not have the same enthusiam as the the young LT.I can not remember the young LTs. name but my father said he was one of the first KIA that day.

What unit was the Lt and your Father in ?
I'm always looking for diaries and accounts from 106th members. If your Father hasn't written it, how about you trying ? No obligations, and it will be read by hundreds of other 106th people and deposited at the US Army Institute of History.
If interested, send direct to jimwest@iquest.net
Thanks for the post.
