Update: Made a little headway on my Grandfathers history. Found a copy of a certificate of completion of seventeen weeks of training in a heavy weapons company at Camp Roberts, California on April 29, 1944. Still looking for how or when he was attached to the 106th. Also found some more photos of my Grandfather shortly after Germany surrendered with buddies from the 106th this time with partial names written on the back with some places and dates. Some of the photos are attached. If anyone recognizes the other soldiers please let me know. "Me" of course is Milton. Hundley-N.C., Me, Jimenez-Cal., Crawford-TX (The Lions Head patch is visable on Hundley and several medical badges are visable so these may be members of the 424th Medical Detachment) imageshack.us/a/img132/1263/22p2.jpgBrannin, Me, and George imageshack.us/a/img69/2983/l2bi.jpg(There are signs with city names in the background, anyone know what they are?) Jim and Milton, Nancy, France imageshack.us/a/img11/8595/5avr.jpgMe, Brannin and George. War just ended in Germany imageshack.us/a/img62/3005/l8g6.jpgMe and George at bombed out bridge in Karlsruhe, Germany imageshack.us/a/img59/6753/ghbk.jpgIf anyone could provide me with any further information on these photos it would be greatly appreciated.

Glad you're making some progress... These are great! Thanks! I did try checking some of the names on the ever growing roster on the Indiana Military Site: www.indianamilitary.org/106ID/Rosters/RosterZOHO.htmNo immediate luck with some of the names, but two acquired from the Combat Medical awards list (possibly the same person? but different unit lists) looked like strong contenders for the Crawford. Both were George W. Crawford, one with a Jr. added 1st was in 331st Medical BN. ; Second in 424th, 2nd BN. The Combat Medical awards were given to medics. Haven't checked to see if the "Crawford" in first photo is the George in other photos... I've linked a note on the photo site to this post with your photos, too. It would be nice if someone who recognized a face would stumble onto your post... Connie

Thanks Connie. Really appreciate it. I will also go through medic awards records and do some digging. I am going to visit with the son of Charles E Reed of 2nd Battalion, my Grandfathers good friend he grew up with. He passed in 2009. It turns out he lived about two blocks from where my wife grew up all this time. Never knew it. Got three photos of Mr. Reed to his family they did not have. We are going to share info. Keep you posted. PS: Found a report online by Roy D Underwood, 424th Regimental Historian. Do you or anyone know of any other records from Mr. Underwood? www.62vgd.de was the web site.

Good Evening:
The early part of January 1945, the 424th Regiment was pulled off the line
I recall the photo "booths" where G.I.s would get their pictures taken; mostly head & shoulder shots, Numerous Soldiers picture were taken with a buddy, or whoever was with them at the time.
Lieage (SP) was a popular place to go. It was the closest city of any size to visit in the area where we were located at that time in January. I remember that the 424th was back on line at least several days (perhaps more than several) before the 15th of January.

Thanks again for your insights Mr. Ragsdale. Hope you are doing well. That clears up a lot. I have about half a dozen photos just as you describe several which had Liege-1945 written on the back. One of which is the avatar on the discussion sight.
