This discussion board recently lost a dear friend with the passing of Floyd Ragsdale. We are fortunate that Floyd spent a great deal of his time preserving his insights, straight forward positive approach to life, his sense of humor, and his memories on this board. If you have a favorite or newly discovered thread or post you'd like to highlight here, please tell of it here and attach a link Thanks! Connie PS. If you're not into searching, links to the full threads begun by Floyd can be found here: 106thdivision.proboards.com/user/114/recent_threads

July 4, 1945: Bingen GermanyAs the 4th of July 2016 rapidly approaches I remember an Independence Day post that grew into a conversation with Floyd Ragsdale (424 G) about how he spend Independence Day 1945. It's a detailed and heart-warming story: 106thdivision.proboards.com/post/1938/thread

I had hoped to see him in St.Vith as that was the plan. Too bad he died the week before and therefore i lost the opportunity to meet this character of a man i had starting to know a little through messages online in real life.
My favorite part was his story of the spy in the tree behind his foxhole. Don't know where i read it. On the forum or private message/email.

I am so sorry you missed meeting Floyd. I am sure you both would have enjoyed talking with each other. I do remember the spy in the tree episode. I am looking for it. I have found reference to the fact that it happened on December 16, but I have not yet found the original account. (the reference can be found when you skim past notes on the 17th in this post: 106thdivision.proboards.com/post/3569/threadYou may have note that I have also begun collecting some of these posts under Floyd's name in a board on "106th Soldiers Speak:" 106thdivision.proboards.com/post/4424/thread
