I just located Pete Dimas's story in the oral histories compiled by the University of Texas:

In recounting the initial hours after his capture, Dimas noted:
"That night, the prisoners of war walked through a ruined city, and someone started singing "God Bless America."
"We kept on singing and singing and singing and singing. And walking and walking, and we just wanted to let the Germans know that we weren't licked yet,"
Dimas's name is already in the Indiana Military Roster which lists the source as the Combat Infantry Badge Award from General Orders 1945-051 issued 7-31-45 www.indianamilitary.org/106ID/Rosters/REFERENCES/1945-051-CBI/251.htm
