Good Afternoon, I am doing research on 106th ID helmets from World War 2. I would really appreciate it if everyone could help me out by posting pictures of your relatives helmets from the war & helmet liners. Also If you have pictures of soldiers with there helmets please post them also! Im specifically looking for painted helmets with the lion head on them. - Nick K

Hi Nick,
As far as I know the practice to paint the unit insignia on the steel helmet and liner was not common in 106th. I have never seen an original 106th helmet with painted insignia, unlike other divisions. On all period pictures I have the helmets are plain OD.
Greetings Carl

Hi,
I was wondering about that... I have one photo of Dad in a helmet (haven't checked to see if that was in the ETO or before... ) but it was plain. I wonder if what Carl has observed is true because there was so little time to settle in before the men of the 106th were in the thick of battle.
I knew one medic who was in the process of painting his helmet with the circle overlaid with a cross when the action hit. He never got beyond the circle.
Do you have a photo of your relative in a hemet, Nick?
Anyone else?
Connie

I do not unfortunately. I only have a few photos of my Uncle during the war and none of them have him wearing his helmet. hopefully someone else will have one! - Nick K
