The 105mm howitzer is the large weapon of the 589th, 590th, and 591st Field Artillery Battalions of the 106th Infantry Division(The 592nd fired the larger 155mm howitzer.) At the onset of the Bulge each of these unit was part of a combat team that bore the name of the infantry regiment they supported with their fire. 589th Field Artillery Battalion supported the 422nd Infantry Regiment 590th Field Artillery Battalion supported the 423rd Infantry Regiment 591st Field Artillery Battalion supported the 424th Infantry Regiment Each of these units had three firing batteries (A, B, & C). 1966 Video of 105mm howitzer in action UTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkXYvZmTRnMDoes anyone have knowledge of any differences between this device and the one used by the men of the 106th?
