Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I'm Mark, my father was a machine gunner in H Co. of the 422nd. Always think about all the 106th vets at Christmas, although I never met any of you. We used to exchange Christmas cards with Harold Bendle in Ohio, who was dad's buddy, but that's the only name I know.

Holiday Greetings to you too. I think that most of us who have worked on researching the history of a member of the 106th feel that same kinship you mention to others in the division. And as the crisp weather of December hits I think about them as they faced those tough days of December 1944... It's good to hear from you!
You didn't mention your dad's name (and that is not required). But I have added a link to this thread near the top of the 422nd Site Soldier Index. I also added Harold Bendle's name and linked to this thread.
I see that Bendle is listed on the Indiana Military Site Roster as having been a POW at Stalag IVB. Was your Dad there, too?

Sorry for my omission. My dad is Harry Urner, he appears on the roster. He was an original 106th man from inception until his discharge. Dad was at IVB as well. I suspect he and Harold were together from before deployment to liberation.

Thanks for the name. I'll add it to the Site Soldier index.
Nice that your dad and his wartime buddy had contact through the years...
