Welcome to the 106th Infantry Division Discussion Group!
If you're new to the board, a quick orientation may be helpful.
BACKGROUND HISTORY:
On an historical note, Jim West--who hosts the Indiana Military site with a huge section for the 106th Infantry Division's story-- asked some members of the 106th Infantry Division and their offspring if they would be interested in starting a discussion group. With an affirmative answer it was begun on a different board and later moved to this site.
Jim West eventually asked two others to help facilitate the site (Carl and Connie), Carl is busy with his own site now (another excellent source of information Find the link to Carls Site here: 106thdivision.proboards.com/post/3348/thread ). Jim Wentz has joined the facilitation team. Jim and Connie each have a strong interest in the history of the 106th Infantry Division and a willingness to help in your search for answers and some links to others who may know more.
Occasionally we add information or attempt to index what is here for easier retrieval. But it is the interactive input of each member of this discussion board that is at the heart of what this site is all about.
WHY IS THIS A "MEMBERS ONLY" SITE?
Initially the site was totally open to anyone surfing the web. But some sort of group with a totally foreign alphabet began using the site each night for their own purposes. (Since none of us could read it, we don't know what those purposes were...) After some discussion Jim made the decision to make this a closed site. It is a trade-off. We lose some visibility. But we gain some security.
In the passing years, more options have become available. So Jim Wentz has opened the board viewing to guests. But the option to post is still limited to board members.
MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONS
The questions asked for setting up an account are standard for a closed Pro Board site and are not information we collect.
The birthday bit makes your screen name pop up once a year. If you feel uncomfortable about using your own birthday, just choose a date. There are 365 to choose from. That's fine.
RECEIVING E-MAIL NOTIFICATIONS
The board provides for a lot of quiet personal e-mail in-boxes.
This is good in many ways.
But if someone replies to your message and you're not checking the discussion board regularly, you could miss it.
The discussion board allows for automated messages to your e-mail in this and other cases of your choosing, but you have to activate this feature. The directions are here:

HOW DO I POST
For many tech-oriented the use of tis site is intuitive. If you have questions, some of your basic questions are answered in the "Site Questions and How To's" section of this discussion board. Threads in that section include:
* Posting a Message: 106thdivision.proboards.com/post/4390/thread
* How to Post Pictures & Photos: 106thdivision.proboards.com/post/621/thread
If you have other questions, feel free to hit the "reply" to this Welcome thread and ask away!
Happy exploring and posting!
