This update on his work with General Orders document came yesterday from in from Jim West:
Two days ago I began looking thru the 106th General Orders for individuals. I have now added 120 new names and info to the Roster. I still have 71 General Orders to look in. I never thought they could be such a source of material. All the General Orders are available on the website. As best I can tell, it is the only such complete listing of General Orders anywhere. Several indexes exist, but no one seems to have them in detail. West
PS. To get to the reference list for the roster when this announcement disappears from the board, 1) Locate the fader bar on the home page that flashes with a welcome and two links. 2) Choose the first link (for roster, diaries, etc.) This takes you to the 106th section of Jim West's Indiana Military Site 3) Click on References on the side bar line labeled References.

As Jim continues to work through the document find, there was a find within that find. Today Jim wrote to say:
Just discovered that mixed in with the General Orders, is Special Order #66, 03/03/1945, which is the transfer of "outside" personnel into the 106th for the re-activation of the unit. There are EIGHT PAGES of single spaced names, ASN, MOS and unit being assigned too. I can easily see this will add hundreds of new names to the Roster.

This a.m. a note from Jim West announces: All of the General Orders and Special Orders for the 106th Division are now available for viewing on the website (Indiana Military Site), and each has been searched for individual names and information. From those orders, I was able to add 509 new names to the Roster. And 8,331 existing entries had newly found information added or corrected. The total for the Roster is now 17,329 individuals. Please let me know if you have any problems searching the roster. View the General and Special Orders at www.indianamilitary.org/106ID/Rosters/REFERENCES/Source.htmView Roster 3-24-22 Note: The roster location has changed. Jim has turned it over to Wayne Dunn who is managing it on the 106th Infantry Division Association site 106thinfdivassn.org/roster106/rostera.html

Reviewed the roster Jim pulled together......incredible job! I have no idea how he did it. Also took the opportunity to check out his website and look at the section on the 106th again. We owe him a HUGE "thank you" for all his work. He continues to do the veterans of the 106th, their families and friends an incredible service by documenting and recording so much of their history. Thank you, Jim, for your work and your service to our country.
