While this question arose when exploring some questions about the 592nd Field Artillery Battalion the answer should hold true for the other Field Artillery Battalions, too. FORWARD OBSERVERS & FORWARD OBSERVER TEAMSIt seems clear that each firing battery (A, B, & C) within a battalion had at least one Forward Observer as the lead person within a Forward Observer team & that forward observer teams were rotated. The question is did each battery have two forward observer teams, keeping the rotation within each battery and resulting in 3 Forward Observer teams in the forward position at any time. Or, was there a single Forward Observer team within each battery, with one forward at any time and the others rotating into that single forward position? Does anyone have this answer or clues to a good theory? Note: the question arose in looking for answers to the circumstances surrounding the capture of Wayne C. Smith, a Forward Observer from A- Battery of the 592nd 106thdivision.proboards.com/post/4751/thread
