Contains detailed maps of positions and graphic first-hand accounts from veterans."John Kline, of the 106th, who wrote the forward to this book, said of the author: "I met Mike, through correspondence in the early '90's. He had been, and has been since, vacationing in the Ardennes area. He understands the 106th Infantry Division's positions as well as any person I have ever met. His intimate knowledge of the area, gleaned over the years, makes him a good authority and a great choice for authoring such a fine history guide."
Note from Connie: JR. Wentz made me aware of this book. I am now awaiting his review...!

St. Vith: US 106th Infantry Division by Michael Tolhurst. 1999
This book is part of the Battleground Europe series and I highly recommend it for anyone who is just beginning to study the the 106th Infantry Division and the attached units at the Battle of the Bulge, or for anyone who may want to visit St. Vith and the battle sites. The print book is 160 pages, and the same content stretches to 231 pages in the Kindle version, which sells for $1.99. Michael Tolhurst provides clearly printed and easy to understand battle maps, plenty of photos, and concise descriptions of the battle as it unfolded over the first six days. John Kline contributed some of the photos, and content from his wartime diary. John (423/M) also wrote the Foreword.
My brother and I visited the Battlefield with our father, William J Wentz 423/M, in October of 2000. I wish I had a copy of this book to study before and during the trip. Pages 137 - 156 provide directions and information you need for a self-guided tour of the battlefield.
If you want to further your study after reading this book you will be ready to read "St. Vith, Lion in the Way" and/or "A Time for Trumpets" - my top three recommended books if you want to study the 106th.
