This site has a list of WWII Army Field Manuals, Training Manuals, Weapons Manuals, Organization, duties, and equipment for various types of Companies, Battalions, etc. Most of the manuals can be downloaded as PDF files. I am finding these very helpful. www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/ref/FM/index.html

I've found answers to a number of questions about the Heavy Weapons companies, the Engineer outfits, Cannon Company, the Division Band, and the booby traps Sgt. Kline described that were in the forest on the Schnee. I was curious about the band taking over the defense of the Div HQ, thinking it was probably unusual. But, it is in the manual as one of the responsibilities that can be assigned to the band.

In the world of coincidences, I had also been recently pondering the band being sent from their quarters in Vielsalm to St. Vith on the 16th to help in the defense of Division Headquarters... I see what you were referring to in the Band manual (click to enlarge): Very helpful stuff...
