When researching the 106th in battle one comes across an occasional reference to artillery units that are not organic to the 106th. Whille going back over the information in the books "St. Vith: Lion in the Way" the author, Colonel R. Ernest Dupuy, on page 15, says the VIII Corps had earmarked as available on call from the 106, fire from the 174th, 333d, and 402d Field Artillery Groups (nine battalions). Finding out I was looking for Groups instead of Battalions it was easy to find the list of Corps unit names and locations on the 106th web site. I plan to return here and post any significant info about these units as I find them, and hope others will do the same. I am familiar with a few things involving the 333d, the 634th, etc. but need to go back to the sources before posting. www.indianamilitary.org/106ID/SoThinkMenu/106thSTART.htm (Note: Scroll down a ways at the link to find this list). They had plenty of action, and knew their way around. The advance party had arrived a couple of days before; but were directed elsewhere, and we never saw them again.
