Besides research on the 106th, I also maintain a modest collection of military items of the 106th division. Every now and then I set up some of this stuff as a display. Call it a sort of personal museum, which I hope of making into a real one (some day). Here's a recent impression I made of what an artillery forward observer (in this case an officer, could also have been an EM) looked like during the Ardennes offensive. All these uniform items and equipment are 100% real and dated 1943-1944. Most of them are also identified to 106th veterans. Shown is a 2nd Lieutenant of one of the Arty Bn's ready to set out on a FO mission. He's wearing the standard GI wool uniform (shirt and trousers) with field jacket (M1943). He's wearing a pair of overshoes over his boots. He is armed with an M1 Carbine (.30 cal) which is slung over his back. Note the map case on the left, this contains a plastic grid with a map of the St Vith area, including the necessary instruments (chinese marker, message book, other maps and manuals). The net worn on the helmet is uncommon but is a souvenir from the Tennessee manoeuvers in January 1944. Hope you like this! Carl

Hi Michelle,
I have several original maps of the Schnee Eifel. I'll make a scan of one so you can use it for your display.
Greetings Carl
