The Stars and Stripes library staff provides research services utilizing our archives, which date back to 1942 for the European edition and 1945 for the Pacific edition. To contact the library staff, e-mail information@stripes.osd.mil.
Reprint services
Stars and Stripes provides photocopies of archived articles for $10. Additional articles published in the same calendar month are $3.
Photo reproduction
Reproductions of Stars and Stripes staff photographs are available through Pictopia. Photos not currently featured in our galleries are available by special request.
Archive searches
If the date of an item’s publication is unknown, our library staff can conduct a search for the article or photograph in our archives.
Digital archive searches, which include either staff-written or military-related articles from the European edition since 1984 and from the Pacific edition since 1999, are provided at no additional cost. Searches for all other articles during that time period, as well as material prior to these dates, require a manual search. The fee is $50 for a search of papers published over a one-month period.
To increase the odds of a successful manual search, it’s important to narrow the search field as much as possible. Details about when a story was published, where it appeared in the paper and whether photos appeared with the story give our librarians a better chance of locating the article in question. Please read our tips for a successful search before submitting your request.
