A funny thing happened on the way to posting some form of this question. I read Ed Christianson's note about searching for buddies and got totally sidetracked.
One answer to his note gave me clues I needed for another search of mine.
And, that coincidence led me to take the needle in the haystack chance that the 106th medic who I knew might be worth mentioning. You will be pleased to know that we beat the odds. Ed is now catching up with an old buddy!

The point is, that this Discussion Board can be used to help you find an old buddy. Give it a try.

With a new site, a successful people search seems improbable. But, one man's request for help in his search for fellow medics from his unit, has already yielded results both for him and for someone else.
"Ace," trying to help in the Medic's search, mentioned a 106th doctor. The doctor's name was familiar TO ME! Dad had mentioned him in a letter written during the channel crossing!
I am now in touch with the doctor. Questions I thought would never be answered are now in the hands of someone who can answer them! (Thank you "Ace"!)
But there is more: My success led me risk the impossible. I knew a medic. It was a long shot, but I metioned my medic friend's name to the searcher and the searcher's name to my medic friend. Amazingly, they knew each other!
Miracles like this probably won't happen with every attempt, but I'm sold on the process!

I am Fredrick Smallwood and was in the ASTP at Vanderbilt Univ. One of my roommates was named John Maloof (I think from Joplin, MO.) When we were sent to Camp Atterbury I was put in 1 Bn., Hq. Co., 423rd Reg. He was put in Div. Band. I saw him several times while at Atterbury. Skip now to Feb. 1945. I had walked out through the German lines and placed in Anti Tank Co., 424th Reg. We were in a town in Belgium (?) billeted in a house at a crossroad with our gun set up. I was searching around the house and found 2 musical instruments in a closet. A saxaphone with the name Maloof and a serial no. written on the case. There was also a cornet with someone else's name and ser. no. I gave them to our Co. Commander and do not know what happened to them. In more recent years I began to think about those times. I asked around if anyone in the band knew of Maloof but have not found anyone who knew he even existed. I would appreciate anyone with any information contacting me.
