Under "endless possibilities" on this home front area, Roger brought up his mother's work in a ball bearing factory during the war.
In another post he mentioned POW's in Michigan working on local farms. (I know this was true in some areas of England, too.)
With so many of our young men off fighting the war, there was a need to be creative back on the home front -- both in getting the everyday work done and in gearing up wartime production.
Women entered the labor force in new ways and some men were required to stay in jobs considered essential to the war effort.
It would be interesting to collect more memories in this area.
