Anyone know Albert L'Heureux? He was captured a few days before Christmas & survived the ordeal. The following information is from a commendation request for a Combat Infantry Badge:
Albert E. L'Heureux, CPL (Upland, Nebraska) Company "K" - 423rd Infantry, 106 Division Separation: Sept. 4, 1945 at Camp Chaffee, Ark. Certifying Officer: O. D. Hunnicutt, WOJG “Soldier was recommended for above award by his Commanding Officer, but was captured by German Army before award was made.”
His youngest brother was only 14 then & remembers hearing that the POW's were in a rail yard when it was strafed & then taken by rail to a camp SSE of Berlin near Furstenberg (possibly Stalag 111-B) close to the Polish border on the Oder River. He remembers Albert saying that Russians released them & about 7 guys got a German fire truck to run so they used that to get back to France.
We are putting Uncle Albert's WWII history together for a L'Heureux family reunion & hope to find soldiers that were with him who could help fill in the blanks.
Thank you so much! ~ Eva Cram (niece of Albert L'Heureux)

Time to bring this post to the top again... on the chance that someone with a connection will see it...
There is some interesting history here.
Hope that you found some more for the family reunion...
