In Googling for sites with information about Berga Concentration Camp, I came across a link to this book. I have not seen the book itself let alone read it. But the write up on this site definitely spoke of men from the 106th Division. www.thejewisheye.com/fw_berga.htmlHas anyone seen or read this book? Connie

I just ordered this book from Amazon. I'll write a review as soon as I finish it. The review you provided the link to made it sound like it would be a useful reference book.
Keep up the good work.

I just finished the book "Given Up For Dead" and I have to say it was a very emotional experience. It was written using the personal accounts of the men that were actually there and blended them into a smooth story line that was easy (and sometimes very painful) reading. I liked the way the author set the picture of the events surrounding their capture and identifying the units that men came from and the circumstances of how they came to be POW's. Some were from the Battle of the Bulge and some were from Operation Northwind in the South of France. From reading the personal accounts it's amazing that any of these men survived and were able to return home and somehow lead productive lives and raise families.
On a side note it finally made clear to me why WW II vets that were still around when I was in the service had such a deep dislike for the Red Cross. I'll leave it to future readers of the book to draw their own conclusions.
Over all, I'm glad this book was written and I'm glad I read it.
