Golden Lions,
I am looking for information on my grandfather, Ssgt Daniel J. Kiely of the 424th Infantry, L company. His serial number is 12191517 and is from Rhode Island. He was wounded twice around Schonberg, the second time seriously enough to eventually be evacuated to the US.
As is typical of his generation he never talked about the war. I always knew he was in WWII, but never any specifics. It wasn't until I enlisted in the Army that my Uncle shared some of the history with me. Unfortunately my Grandfather fought his last battle with cancer during my last tour in Iraq.
Any information would be greatly appreciated friends.
respectfully,
Casey Coyle

Casey A good start would be to go to www.IndianaMilitary.Org and click on enter. then click on 106th Division at the top, then click on Unit Information on the left and then on 424th and then on424/L on the drop down menu and you should see a rather long narrative about your grandfather's Company. You may not see his name mentioned, but the events talked about must have included him in some way. If you know the date he was wounded you can find in the narrative what his Company was doing on that day. Be sure to read over the other tips posted on this discussion group and you can get many tips and advice on how to learn more. Good luck Frank Grant

I recently spoke to Ralph Wyss who informed me that my grandfather was most likely in 1st Platoon as a Platoon Guide. Any members of L Company 1st Platoon on this site?

Just a follow-up to see if anything has developed.

Casey, Time to bring this post up again. I'll head to the Site Soldier index and see if there are any more links on 424L. I'll also check the Roster for updates... A few minutes later... Nothing new in the Roster I've checked through the 424th listings in the Site Soldier Index: 106thdivision.proboards.com/post/1385/threadI see seven names with a 424 L designation under them. The links may be worth reading through & perhaps you can find contact info for some people posting or leave a Personal message on the board. Any more luck with your search? Connie P.S. If you haven't already done so you might the Board How To's section for info on how to set up automatic notification when there are replies to your posts.
