As I prepare for a trip it dawns on me that a board on travel might be helpful. I'm sure I'll have lots to share when I return. There may be sites in France and Germany as well as Belgium that people have visited. As we move into the second and third generation of visitors the sharing of information probably becomes more valuable.
I can picture threads on helpful guidebooks, must see sites, good places to stay, memorable and good budget meals, museums and monuments... any other questions or suggestions?
Looks like this first thread will focus on helpful books...

Connie
I bought a book from Barnes and Noble on line titled A Tour of the Bulge Battlefied by William Cavanagh that has detailed maps and photos of the way the roads and terrain looks today and tells what events took place there in 1944. It gives turn by turn directions for visiting various important spots. It was my plan when I bought it that some day I would be able to visit the area in person and use it as a guide.

Frank,
I had no idea that this book existed. It sounds like it would be extremely helpful. I'll check it out. Thanks!

Touring Maps Battleground maps are helpful for retracing steps, but for driving something else may also be needed. I've had several people recommend the Michelin maps.
I have one of Belgium and Luxembourg picked up a couple of years ago at a travel store. The price tag on the back says $10.95.
