My dad, Harry Becker belonged to K Co, 424th, 106th. Does anyone remember him? Can anyone tell me what exact route you took and where you were when you were attacked? My dad who is gone now related a few stories...he remembers marching from La Havre, France to just about Winterspelt (?) He was wounded by shrapnel and came to on the other side of the road and tried to get with the rest of his company, but they told him to go to the Medic Aid Station. He barely made it. My brother and I would like to retrace his steps. We've read many, many books about the Battle of the Bulge and the 424th is barely mentioned. Thank you in advance for any and all information. judith.suliman@gmail.com

Hello Judy:
Winterspelt was the 424th Regimental headquarters.
Attached you will find a map that shows all of the Regimental Companys battle locations as of 12/16/44.
Quite a few men of the 424th were wounded by German Artillery fire on 12/16 & 17. That is embedded in my memory as if it took place just a few weeks ago.
Floyd G Co., 424th Regt.

Floyd, I'm not seeing the map. I know that Carl provided a good one of your units movements based on a diary. Any more info on K company, Carl? In a quick internet search, I ran across this account. I haven't looked it over but in skimming I saw some details that connected. I also knew one of the personal report authors. Carl can probably better attest to the accuracy and lead you to other good sources on the movements of K company of the 424th. Floyd can add the expertise of someone who was there in a companion unit of the 424th. Here's a tidbit: www.62vgd.de/106/424th_history/Part_three.htmConnie

K-Company started out just South of Winterspelt, near the village of Heckhuscheid.
The retreat was through Burg Reuland towards Vielsalm. From there on the regiment (including K-Co) was put in action at Manhay.
Greetings Carl

Thank you all so very much! It was Gourock Scotland for sure! Yes, my brother and I were guessing maybe around Heckhuscheid/Winterspelt! Just from bits and pieces we could find! It is astounding to see how close we were! Any other information is most welcome!!

Continuing some conversations we've had about validating the Combat Infantryman's badge, the division historian confirmed for me this AM:
The award of the CIB should be noted on the father's discharge papers. If they indicate that he was given credit for participation in a campaign, any campaign, and was an infantryman, he qualifies for the badge.
Hope that helps.
