Hello, My Name is Randy Baxter, I am the Radio Host for a radio show called THE VETERAN NEXT DOOR. I am not a Veteran. I interview Veterans on my show. First I tell a story of an Historical event, then I interview someone who was there. Ii just finished interviewing a soldier from the 106th who was captured on Dec 17, 1944. He participated in the MARCH across Germany and survived the ordeal. I will send you information on how to hear his story when it is edited an ready for airing in Mid MArch. It can be heard on the internet at www.wnoxfm.com every Saturday morning at 6am and every Sunday at 9 am EST. Thankyou all for what you did, I am honored to have met at least one of you. I would like to meet more. I can be contacted at randallbaxter@randallbaxter.com.

Randy,
Thanks for the promise to update us on this 106th interview. And thanks for the work you and your radio station are doing in your "Soldier Next Door" series. I look forward to information on the soldier from the 106th that you interviewed.
Know that you are not alone in not being a veteran. Many on this site are daughters, sons, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren of veterans of the 106th. Some are friends who have no family connection but care deeply. Some have adopted graves and some track history of the division. I'm glad your interest in soldiers of WWII brought you to a member of the 106th.
I don't know if you're aware of an early Tennessee connection for the division. While there was a huge manpower raid on the division before and after D-Day, the 50% or so of the division members who were with the division before during and after that time did their maneuvers in Tennessee.
Waiting for more info. I hope there will be a taped interview available as well as a live broadcast.
Connie

Below is a note from a Knoxville radio broadcaster about an interview with a member of the 106th to be broadcast Sunday.
The reply below this message sums up how and when to connect: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Connie, I recently joined this group. I am a Radio talk Host on WNOX FM 100.3 FM
This Sunday, at 9:05 AM I am broadcasting a show about John Shell, he was in the 106th and was captured on December 19, 1944. Its a 1 hour show discussing what happened to him and in a way answers many of the questions lots of your posters ask.
This is a heart warming story of a 93 year old man who took the time with me to tell his story in his march across Germany after being captured.
It is probably one of the best shows I have ever recorded. I hope you get to hear it, and I hope all the participants on this site get the chance to listen to this heartwarming , informational show about the 106th.

You're welcome, Diana. It's good to see you on site again!
I, too, listened. I missed the first couple of minutes of the intro. Did they give John Shell's unit within the 106th? (A John Shell is listed in Jim West's roster, but no unit info there...)

Thank you, Connie. I didn't mean to be gone so long! I don't recall that they specified Mr. Shell's unit. It was a very interesting and compelling interview. I want to express my appreciation to Mr. Baxter and Mr. Shell.
