My dad was wounded severely and then captured on 12/21/44. He went to Stalag XIII-D. But now I learn that XIII-D did not take Americans until February 1945. When he was captured would he have gone to a hospital or another Stalag with medical facilities? Where would he likely have been between 12/21/1944 and 2/1945? Since there were thousands of men captured and tons of confusion during that time it can only be guessed that your father may have in fact been sent to a German military hospital first and like my father was sent to Stalag IV B, which according to the reading I have done was kind of a clearing house where POW's were sorted out and sent on according to their ability to work. The only information that I have been able to find is from the accounts written by individuals and it seems that every experience is different. On the Indiana Military Website there is a link devoted to stories of men that were in the various camps and you may get some clues there. Good luck in your search.
