Under "Random Military Questions" 106thdivision.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=questions&action=display&thread=364 (post #3 here)... After an explanation of what the letters BAR stood for (Browning Automatic Rifle) Floyd went back to some related memories: While we were at the Hedishiem, P.W. Compound every G.I. still carried a loaded weapon every day no matter where we were or intended to go.
A B.A.R. man, in one of our platoons, decided to "take a walk" along the Rhein river. Of course, he had his B.A.R. with him and he said, "I'll do some rabbit hunting along the way."
I don't remember if he shot any rabbits or not. Yet, if he did, the poor little bunnie would have been turned inside out after being hit with a blast from a rifle like that.
Now that I think about that incident, several other soldiers from our Company decided to go fishing with some concusion grenades. That's one way to get a mess of fish in a hurry.
It's a good thing there weren't any game wardens to contend with then.

Dad's letters spoke of some post VE Day deer hunting activities by some of the men (probably with a little less explosive power than the power hunters Floyd knew.) Eventually he noted that the Army put a stop to the deer hunting because there had been a few close calls for military personnel.
Back during more active war days he also spoke of someone bagging a deer and everyone's mouth watering for something beyond Spam. But by the time the few "choice parts" had been removed by the hunter, there wasn't much left to share.

I remember seeing a picture of Colonel Earl Scott (Liaison pilot 589th FAB) and Colonel Ben Hagman (Divarty Exec) posing with two deer they shot with a carbine and strung up on the wing of one of the L-4 recon planes.
