Looking for copy of General Orders awarding the Purple Heart to Robert M. O'Neill, 422 Infantry, 106th ID.
He was captured on 21 December 1944, and sent to Oflag 64.

Hmm... You haven't gotten much response on this board unless it happened in the form of personal replies. Have you found your answers?
Anyone able to offer advice in finding copies of "General Orders"?
Do you have copy of other records -- discharge papers, etc?

I'm going to e-mail Robersabel@aol.com a copy of the a general notice from AG & SF RS from Miami Beach. It's specific to the 422nd Reg...written 9-25-45. It list the actions in the Ardennes, the orders from Col Descheneaux, and promotions, the awards for all members. All POW's are entitled to wear 2 Bronze Stars. One for the Rhineland Campaign, and one for the Ardennes Campaign. At that time, also is a list of known KIA.

Diane seemed to have the best information on this. I hope it helped.
I have rechecked Jim West's roster since he had a friend photocopying 106th General Orders from the National Archives for him. But nothing new has shown up under the name of Robert M. O'Neill 422 G. He does note a 1991 Cub Magazine for the months 7/8/9 as the source of some information on Lt. O'Neill.

Still no update on the Purple Heart, but for other information on Robert McLeod O'Neill, and links to others who have walked his path you might want to check updates on Oflag 64 under the POW Experience: 106thdivision.proboards.com/post/5031/threadIn renewing the search for more information on the 106th soldier from G Company of the 422nd, I found notice of his passing in the March 2017 Cub magazine: O'NEILL, ROBERT MCLEOD 422/G --Date of Death: October 24, 2016 Robert McLeod O'Neill passed away at sunset on October 24, 2016 at the age of 93 with his daughter, Diane, holding his hand. Bob was born in Winnepeg, Canada, on July 6, 1923. He immigrated with his family to California when he was a boy and received his citizenship in the United States. Bob became a member of the U.S. Army while an undergraduate at UCLA and was captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. He escaped from the Germans in January 1945, while being held by them at OFLAG 64 in Poland. Bob attended reunions of the survivors of OFLAG 64 well into his eighties. Bob married the love of his life, Katheryne (O'Kane) O'Neill in 1948 and they adopted two children, Dennis and Diane. His distinguished career as a Manager/Commercial Banker with Santa Monica bank and an Executive with Wells Fargo Bank included a stint with Litton Industries as a business manager in the early 1960s

Thinking about "General Orders" and the Purple Heart question..., I personally have not attempted to go through official channels to locate General Orders. For a time, Jim West of the Indiana Military site had an acquaintance at the National Archives (I believe that was the location), who was sending him photo copies of General Orders for men in the 106th. Links to these can be found peace-meal on the source list for the roster there: www.indianamilitary.org/106ID/Rosters/REFERENCES/Source.htmAt one time I found a couple of my father's general orders there. Last night I attempted to scan some of these lists looking for your father. I didn't find anything but I may have missed a list or two or scanned too quickly. I noted that there were also some copies that did not completely show up. But it is worth a second set of interested eyes... Connie
