Roger,
Looks like an interesting question...
I did try copying info on the first book listed and pasting it into my Google Search. A number of not too useful things came up including a link back to the Cigarette Camp posting. But there was one that spoke of a complete download. Not knowing how big a file they were talking about, I was not brave enough to try at the time...

Connie - I tried the copy/paste thing too....but did it as an address vs search.....will try what you did and see what happens.
Thanks....Roger

Hi, Roger, Any luck? This AM I tried again, plugging in to a Google search just the first listing in the Cigarette Camp Bibliography: Ruppenthal, Roland G. Logisitical Support of the Armies One link looks like a relatively short read by the above author on logistics which looks interesting but does not pertain to the camps named for cigarettes: www.history.army.mil/books/70-7_18.htmIt does get into military history text, making finding what you want look possible. Here's a link to the book that looks more promising. It offers possibilities of reading on line, via Kindle, etc.: www.archive.org/details/logisticalsuppor11ruppI haven't checked the other links or the other titles in the bibliography, but you asked a good question and it looks like there are some possible answers out there... It will be interesting to hear what you find. Connie

Connie - I did find the plan for redeployment of troops after VE Day. It was "the plan".....very lengthy read. Did find much more than that. I was looking for post VE Day units and where they were going etc. (specifically trying to find out more about the 69th Amphib Tractor BN to which my father was assigned). The reading that I did not list or discuss specific units.
My understanding of the the 69th ATB was that it was preparing for an invasion of Japan. I did find (other resources) a reference to the unit and then a "morning report" that I was able to requisition. I was just browsing for more info and saw some interesting references on the "Cigarette Camps" site that might have been relevant to my search.

Hi, Roger, Following your father's story has layers of complexity, with other units before and after being in a unit attached to the 106th. * Thanks for sharing another piece with us. Knowing the search story may also be helpful to others. The Japan bit looks like fodder for a whole new thread!! Good hearing from you! Connie * Note: Roger tells more of his father's story in his site intro: 106thdivision.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=introductions&action=display&thread=387
