Re-issuing of citations

My grandfather was in the 81st Engineers. His bag was stolen when he returned home and lost all his possessions from the war. He passed in 1974.

I'm curious who would be the person/office to contact to see if they would re-issue any citations or awards to his daughter (my mom) he was awarded such as the distinguished unit citation.

I do know that awards have been re-issued-- even this late in the game. Finding the supporting documentation is key...

Hi Riley,

Relatives can get replacement citations and documents from the Army. The medals themselves will have to be purchased commercially I believe.
