A member is planning to post on information learned about eligibility for the Bronze star. I'll start the thread. In a quick look on the web, the most comprehensive and concise post I saw on the subject was on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronze_Star_Medal

This is information I found pertaining to research and application for my Dad's Medals & Awards. In 2010. You must have a valid DD214 & Death Certificate. The one thing we learned and were honored to find out is my Dad was the recipient of the Bronze Star. This coming from his being awarded the C.I.B. on Dec 16, 1944. My Dad was told of this by my husband, but did not live to see his Bronze Star. However, it sits along with his other 8 medals in an awards case with his flag and pictures as a memorial to my Dad, My Hero, Vincent J.Byrnes, 106th Infantry Division/423 SVC Regiment WWII, Battle of The Bulge, P.O.W. I do hope the following important information will help anyone out there unaware of this information, giving you the opportunity to apply and receive these much deserved and awarded Medals of their beloved family member Bronze Star. Here is an item of interest to WWII combat infantrymen and combat medics concerning awarding of the Bronze Star Medal. After General Omar Bradley became Chief of Staff of the U. S. Army, he announced that he felt combat infantrymen and medics of WWII deserved something more than a 'well done'. Army regulations were changed so that combat infantrymen and medics from World War II who had been awarded the Combat Infantry Badge or Combat Medic Badge between Dec. 7, 1941 and Sept. 3, 1945 were also eligible for the Bronze Star award. If you qualify, send your request to: National Personnel Records GSA (Army), 9700 Page Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63132. and who is a Veteran of Vietnam. There is also another site you can go to in order to obtain the medals & awards of your loved one that have become lost, or if you think they are entitled to any other medals they did not receive. This is free, and for next of kin family members. This is: Clothing & Heraldry- P.S.I.D U.S Army TACOM LIfe Cycle Management Command www.veteranmedals.army.mil If I can be of further help to you please contact me at this site. My sincerest best wishes, Karen M. (Byrnes) Fuoco
