The 2012 Tour de France passed through the Ardennes yesterday. Specifically, it passed through the towns of Poteau, Vielsalm, Baraque de Fraiture, Manhay and points in between. I got a bit emotional seeing the Poteau museum, and the part of Vielsalm that I believe showed the same buildings seen in those January 1945 photos that are widely available on the web, and of course Baraque de Fraiture. Baraque de Fraiture was the food spot for the riders, and as the race passed through the announcers recited bits of trivia about the area, but no mention of the battle and the heroes that ultimately saved the area from Hitler. The broadcasted views were from the road and from helicopter. Those crossroads at Baraque de Fraiture were readily identifiable from the helicopter view. It is possible to access the replay of yesterday's coverage, at this site. tourdefrance.nbcsports.com/stages/ You have to register with the site and pay a fee of $4.99 for one day. The first view of the Poteau Museum is about 13 minutes into the broadcast, with another view at 16 minutes. The riders go through Baraque de Fraiture at about 1 hour into the broadcast.

Thanks, Diana, This is interesting! An avid bicyclist in our family has in the past asked to be gifted with DVD's of Tour de France coverage. So I know that DVD's can be had from somewhere post event... Connie PS. I just checked old request lists and found this site where the 2012 event DVD should eventually show up: www.worldcycling.com/searchprods.aspYou have to do a search for "Tour de France DVD's" when you hit this product page

That is great, Connie. I see you can preorder a 12-hour DVD set of the 2012 race. Here is the direct link to the video replay for Stage 1, through the Ardennes. This was generated using the site's "share" button. But I have a suspicion that when you click on the link you will be required to pay a fee to watch. I hope not. tourdefrance.nbcsports.com/player/Player.html?vid=5296If the link does work, you can see the following towns at approximately the given points in the video: Recht--10 mins Poteau Museum & town--13 and 16 mins Vielsalm--24 mins Baraque de Fraiture--1 hour Manhay--1:10 From Manhay on, the announcers occasionally mention the Battle of the Ardennes, and its importance.
