What's a G-2 Section
I'm looking at an account by Lt. Col. Thomas Riggs, commander of the division's 81st Combat Engineers.
After telling of traveling to St. Vith on the morning of the 16th of December he states, " From the G-2 Section I learned that the whole front was under heavy attack by enemy infantry supported by tanks and artillery. The division G-2's attempted to convey this information to the VIII Corps..."

In searching, I'm seeing some officers in charge (at division headquarters?) of G-1 through G-5 sections. I am also seeing G-2 mentioned somewhere as an intelligence unit. But so far what I've found is sketchy. If anyone knows more for certain, your insights would be appreciated.

The G-2 was the Intel unit in any given unit their job was to gather intel related to any given situation the unit was in pass it up to higher channels for evaluations process any new information received and pass the information and threat assessments back down to the commanders and troops in the field...hope this helps some...
