The following story supposedly happened near the end of The Battle of the Bulge, or late January 1945 to a pair of Infantry Soldiers in the 424th Infantry Regiment.
If it actually took took place as told here, do you suppose those two G.I.'s are still doing Army Latrine Duty??? Here's The Story
Two Soldiers up front were discussing what they were going to do when they were relieved of front line duty. Their decision was to find the first pub and get drunk. Sure enough - - - they did just that when they were relieved of front line duty. By two o’clock in the afternoon they were “plastered” and decided to get back to their outfit. Staggering outdoors they observed that a heavy fog surrounded the area - - - they had no idea where they were.
As they were debating what to do about their predicament a three star General emerged out of the fog. One of the drunken Soldiers staggered up to the General and disrespectfully said, “Hey bud, do you know where we are?’
Enraged about being treated so rudely by a drunken G.I., the General raised up his shoulders, puffed his chest out and shouted, “Do you know who I am?
The drunk staggered backward - - - and while looking at the General in astonishment, he said said to his buddy, “Boy are we in trouble - - - we don’t know where we are, and while pointing to the General said, This clown doesn’t even know who he is."

Floyd,
I got a chuckle the first time I heard you tell this story in person. It lost nothing in printed translation. I laughed again!
Thanks!

Floyd,
That was too funny it made my day. It is nice to know that there could be some humor even during the worst of times!

Hi Ruth:
My mind tells me that two Soldiers would never pull a stunt like that, however when drunk, two G.I.s are very unpredictable, to say the least.
Nevertheless, it's nice to know you enjoyed the story.

Thank you Connie:
Several years ago, when I was awarded the Bronze Star, I told that story. Everyone there (ca150 - 200 people) had a good laugh, including the three Generals who were there.

This story still cracks me up, Floyd. I remember you telling it to us here in Belgium a couple of years ago now.
Greetings! Carl

Thanks Carl. I remember how Sofie's mother laughed at that story also . Then she asked me to tell it again about six or seven times.
