These look like the typical enlisted barracks at Fort Jackson, S.C. The timeframe is March 1943 to January 1944 when the division left the camp.

Hey Carl. I know he started training at Camp Roberts in Califiornia because of a note he made in a pad but nothing between there and how he got to the 106th. i have my whole family looking for some letters that got misplaced. Any thoughts on how I might could track down his training locations?

Now that you mention Camp Roberts it becomes clear that the photos might have been taken during his basic training in CA. Camp Roberts had very similar barracks like those at Fort Jackson.
Another thing that leads in this direction is the fact that none of the troops are wearing divisional insignia on their wool shirts or jackets. This means that they were not yet assigned to a specific division. That means they must be in a training battalion. So yes, it's very likely that these photos are from his basic training in California.
I was basing my first opinion on the shape of the buildings, but since these are standardized structures, they do not specifically indicate the location as Fort Jackson, SC.
Isn't research interesting? ;-)
Greetings Carl

Hey buddy every little bit helps and is appreciated. Thanks. I have more photos of him and his brother visiting him presumably in training camp. Some are a little beat up. If you are interested in seeing them I can post them under Photos!?
