These structures have been mentioned several times on this discussion board. For a time in the spring of 1945 some units of the 106th Infantry Division were tasked with keeping an eye on the German soldiers still stationed in these hold-out positions.
I'll place a few links to info about these pens here, as I locate them. If you see any good links on this subject feel free to add them. Also this is a great place for further discussion of the structures, the units here, and any first hand or background history or trivia you may have about the structures or the 106th responsibilities in this area.
Be sure to also check out the board links in the alphabetical listing of places including St. Nazaire and Rennes, France: 106thdivision.proboards.com/thread/553/alphabetical-places-mentioned
Here's a start:

Here's a quick video clip on the submarine bases at St. Nazaire and Lorient, France

And here's a very interesting 8 minute video of the 2008 exploration of the submarine (u-boat) pens at St. Nazaire by a couple of people who docked their sailboat to see explore this site: www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4PTvgjaLgE
In its Nazi Mega Weapons series, PBS did a segment on the Nazi U-boat pens. I'll see if I can find a link for streaming this one. Here's what I have so far, but it's taking forever to open for me. If you find a better site let me know. (Need to run): video.pbs.org/video/2365044773/
And please don't forget the most important function of a discussion board. Please add your own information (or questions) about the 106th time near this area!
