Hello everyone:
Describing “going to sleep while hiking" isn’t easy to express in words.
A Soldier’s body and mind became just plain numb from the lack of sleep. After so many hours from no sleep a fellow became like a machine, without sensitivity.
His legs felt like a fella was walking on two stumps and the mind was in a haze; almost unmindful of reality.
Under those conditions, to a Infantry, Soldier, he felt that the war was endless. His only hope, or way out, was a million dollar wound (not life threading) so he could in a hospital, have a warm bed and a hot meal, or death itself. Either way he would be away from front line duty.
How do I know this to be authentic? Because this veteran was one of many Infantry soldiers who lived through and experienced situations like this.
They are indelibly engraved in the mind and are unforgettable.
